Amazon Canada First Novel Award

The Amazon Canada First Novel Award, co-presented with The Walrus, is coming back to Toronto for its 42nd year.
New this year is the Youth Author Award category. Authors between the ages of 13 and 17 submit a short story under 3,000 words, and our panel of judges will choose the winner—the prize for the winning short story is $5,000 and a mentorship lunch with Walrus editors


    • $5,000 prize and mentorship lunch with The Walrus editors 
    • Youth Authors must be the older of 13 years old and under the age of 18 at the time of entry into the Competition
    • The submission must be an original piece of fictional work under 3,000 words (published or unpublished)
