- LIMITED ENROLLMENT: Black Cat Guest Ranch (near Hinton, AB) has 11 rooms and can accommodate 22 people MAX (double occupancy).
- Once you have registered, you will be sent an email asking for a writing sample. These samples are a necessary part of your registration process.

Note: If you come alone, and select DOUBLE, you will be paired with someone else signed up for JustWrite, AHS restrictions permitting. If you already know who you are sharing a DOUBLE occupancy room with, please indicate their name when you are registering so we know whom to pair you with.

Rayanne Haines

Bio

Rayanne Haines, (she/her) is an author, cultural producer, podcaster, and educator. She is the 2022 Writer in Residence for the Metro Edmonton Federation of Libraries and a best-selling author of three poetry collections - The Stories in My Skin (2013), Stained with the Colours of Sunday Morning (Inanna, 2017), and Tell The Birds Your Body Is Not A Gun (Frontenac, 2021) - as well as a four-part commercial market, urban fantasy/romance series. She hosts the literary podcast Crow Reads and has produced films and theater events showcasing the diversity of women's voices in Alberta. Her poetry and prose have been shortlisted for the Canadian Authors Association Exporting Alberta Award, the Jon Whyte Memorial Essay Alberta Literary Award, The Robert Kroetsch Award for Poetry, and the National ReLit Award for Poetry. Tell the Birds Your Body Is Not A Gun won the 2022, Alberta Literary Awards, Stephan G. Stephansson Award for Poetry. She’s had work published in journals and online in Canada, the UK and the USA. Rayanne has taught/mentored with MacEwan University, U of A extension, The Alexandra Writers' Centre and The Writers' Guild of Alberta.

Course

As the River Asks - In this course of workshops, you’ll explore and interrogate. Through an expansive spectrum of exercises, prompts, sharing and discussion, use poetry, memoir, and fiction tools to broaden and sharpen your writers’ lens. Intertwine those tools; build and recalibrate; dig a well, and learn how to let your journey sit on the page as a river flows across the prairie.

Your 2022 JustWrite Supers and Director/Coordinator

Tania Gigliotti

Tania is a powerhouse administrator, amazing client services manager, excel wizard, and an adorable little hobbit. She spends her spare time researching youth engagement in living history museums for the Young People are the Future project, as well as reading a lot of good books and eating a lot of good food. She's also Gail's favorite.

Mason Repka

Mason wears many hats. Sometimes he is a writer, a creator, a world builder, a musician, and an artist. Other times he is a game master, facilitating worlds of play, whether it be LARP, D&D, or some other form of roleplay based shenanigans. Sometimes, he is a YouthWrite worker bee, doing communications and administrative work in the YouthWrite office. Still other times he is a homemaker and a cat-dad, and deeply enjoys spending time working around the house with his partner Cara and their cat, Phoebe. This summer, Mason is very excited to wear his super hat, and can’t wait for camp. Whatever hat he wears, he is always Gail’s favorite.

YouthWrite Director- Coordinator

Gail Sidonie Sobat

is a multi-award-winning teacher and author, with twelve books for children, teens and adults, and a number of educational and academic articles. A Global News Woman of Vision and an Arts and Culture Citation Award recipient, she is the YouthWrite creator/ coordinator, an international presenter, an instructor in the professional writing program at MacEwan University and in the Faculty of Education at U of A. Gail was The Writers’ Union of Canada Regional Representative for Alberta, NWT and Nunavut, and writer in residence with the Metro Edmonton Federation of Libraries.

She has moved forty times in her life from Badlands to Siksika Nation Reserve to hideous suburbs to Istanbul to the Sunshine Coast to her writer’s garret in a century-old temperamental house. She adores all of her Supers & Coordinators equally, and loves YouthWrite like a madwoman!
