Our Guest Instructors:


Fred Stenson’s latest novel, Who By Fire, was published by Doubleday Canada in 2014. Stenson is the author of 18 books and 150 films and videos. His titles include the historical novels The Great Karoo, Lightning and The Trade. The Trade won the WGA George Bugnet Novel Award, The City of Edmonton Book Prize, and the Grant MacEwan Writer’s Prize and was shortlisted for the Giller Prize . The Great Karoo won the Grant MacEwan Writer’s Prize and was a finalist for the Governor General’s Award for Fiction. Thing Feigned or Imagined, Stenson’s book on the craft of fiction is available from Banff Centre Press. Stenson directed the Wired Writing Studio at The Banff Centre for 15 years. He is a regular columnist for Alberta Views magazine and the 2015-16 Writer In Residence at the University of Alberta.  




Angie Abdou is a professor of Creative Writing at Athabasca University and the author of four books of fiction. Her first novel, The Bone Cage, was a finalist for 2011 Canada Reads and the first One Book One Kootenay. Her second novel, The Canterbury Trail, was a finalist for the Banff Mountain Book of the Year. Between, her most recent novel, is about Filipino nannies, working mothers, and feminism. Between was listed as a Best of 2014 book by Vancouver Sun, 49th Shelf, and Prism Magazine.







Moe Clark is a Métis multidisciplinary artist and a nomadic songbird with wings woven from circle singing and spoken word. She facilitates writing, vocal improvisation and looping pedal workshops in high schools, communities and with Aboriginal youth. Clark has two albums: Circle of She: Story & Song and Within, and a bilingual book of poetry Fire & Sage / De sauge et de feu. She has performed and collaborated on national and international stages and has shared her voice at TedXMtl and the 2012 London Olympics.
