Drawn to Character Fee $170.00  includes

2 full days of amazing table top adventure with Game Master Mason Repka! Delve into the world of D&D and enjoy an epic adventure as we use writing exercises to create and roleplay as characters that fit the setting. We'll build our characters brick by brick; that's not just a statement, we'll be playing in a world where the minifigures and battle maps are all made with Lego from Mason's collection.

 Mason Repka (He/They)


Bio

Mason Repka is a professional Game Master, working in both table-top and LARP (live-action roleplaying) mediums. Mason runs adventures and writing workshops for youth and adults, and is the creator/director of Dark Ascension LARP. Mason is also blessed to work as an office bee and communications manager at YouthWrite, with Gail and Tania. They've studied English, Creative Writing, and Massage Therapy at MacEwan University and the University of Victoria, and recently retired from being a Registered Massage Therapist after 12 years of practice, to focus on wizard stuff... pondering orbs, plotting adventures, general whimsy, and their undying passion for all things YouthWrite. 


Course

Characters: Brick by Brick - In this two day workshop, we'll delve into a world of adventure and fantasy together, playing through a complete mini-campaign with Mason as your Game Master. Along the way, we'll use writing exercises to create and flush out well rounded characters with motivations, bonds, flaws, desires, and backstories that fit the setting. We'll build our characters brick by brick, and that's not just an expression: the character minifigures, battle maps, and setting pieces are all made out of Lego from Mason's collection. Come play, write, and explore in this epic fantasy adventure!


Drawn to Character Coordinator

Tania Gigliotti (She/Her)

is the little Hobbit you may have seen previously working in the children's section of bookstores and comic book stores around Edmonton. When she's not working for YouthWrite, she is the Project Manager on the Young People are the Future Project researching youth engagement in living history museums. At YouthWrite, she is Master of Excel and Campfax and also Communications Manager. 




YouthWrite Director-Coordinator

Gail Sidonie Sobat (She/They)


is a multi-award-winning teacher and author, with twelve books for children, teens and adults, and a number of educational and academic articles. A Global News Woman of Vision and an Arts and Culture Citation Award recipient, she is the YouthWrite creator/ coordinator, an international presenter, an instructor in the professional writing program at MacEwan University and in the Faculty of Education at U of A. Gail was The Writers’ Union of Canada Regional Representative for Alberta, NWT and Nunavut, and writer in residence with the Metro Edmonton Federation of Libraries. 


She has moved forty times in her life from Badlands to Siksika Nation Reserve to hideous suburbs to Istanbul to the Sunshine Coast to her writer’s garret in a century-old temperamental house. She adores all of her Supers & Coordinators equally, and loves YouthWrite like a madwoman!
